For the last five years data loggers, to measure water temperature, have been strategically located around the district. Almost all the head waters now have some coverage. The loggers give us temperature readings every 15 minutes and are down loaded every six months.
This data is particularly useful when considering release times for hatchery fish into the upper catchments. Fish growth rates and food availability are all controlled by temperature. In the future this data will provide us with an invaluable record of water temperature change.
